DeAndre Mathis isn't just a candidate; he’s a public servant with a proven track record. From the Bowen Homes project on Atlanta’s Westside to the deck of the USS Wisconsin during Operation Desert Storm, DeAndre has spent his life answering the call to serve.
As a U.S. Navy Veteran and a recipient of the Combat Action Medal, he knows what it means to lead under pressure. Now, he’s ready to bring that same discipline to the Georgia Department of Insurance to fight for you.
Why I’m Running
Righting the "Off-Course" Ship
For the last 21 years, DeAndre has worked in the insurance and financial services industry as a licensed agent. He has seen firsthand how the industry's reputation has decayed and how Georgians are being crushed by spiraling premiums.
My Plan for Georgia:
- Combat Rising Costs: Use my background as a Tax Accountant (Ernst & Young) and Auditor to demand transparency in rate hikes.
- Consumer Advocacy: Ensure the Commissioner’s office works for the policyholders, not just the providers.
- Community Safety: Leveraging years of civic leadership on the City of South Fulton’s Zoning Board of Appeals to improve state safety standards.
Expertise You Can Count On
DeAndre holds a BBA in Accounting and a Masters of Taxation (MTx) from Georgia State University. His career spans:
- Corporate Finance: Accountant for Southern Company and Ernst & Young.
- Entrepreneurship: Small business owner in the East Lake community.
- Public Leadership: Chairman of the South Fulton Zoning Board of Appeals and advocate for "South Fulton United."
DeAndre is a proud father of four—DeAndre II (US Army), Sedaries (Attorney), Sariya (Teacher), and Sierra (High School Senior)—and a doting grandfather to twin girls-Zuri and Niri. When he isn't fighting for lower rates, you’ll find him building fire pits and gazebos, rooted in his love for landscaping.
